Hooping Holi-daze
So, crazy as it seems, last night was the last Saturday night before WINTER BREAK! We decided to start getting into the holiday spirit by going to an ugly sweater Christmas Party. Didn’t really know many people there, or who even owned the house, but when we went upstairs to find the bathroom, we found something even better… hula hoops!
Naturally, we couldn’t resist taking...

SNOW!
It’s finally happening, people! That’s right… SNOW IN SYRACUSE! I’m genuinely amazed that it took this long, and I can’t pretend that I’m not secretly super excited (as much as I might complain about it on the outside). Here’s one of the problems with the colder weather though: a much colder house. See, as poor college kids who barely have enough for...

Real Men Hula Hoop
So, it’s a common misconception that hula hooping is sort of a “girl thing.” 95% of the images that come up when you Google search hula hooping depict ladies partaking in the joys of hula-ing. But, gentlemen, I want to assure you that you too can wield and appreciate the power of the hoop!
Take my friend Daniel here. Was he afraid to take a whack at whirling around a...

T.U.S.K. with Kay Dent →
Love this!
fuckyeahhooping:
What does the future hold for a Hooping Idol favorite? If it’s Kay Dent of Pink Hoops, then the answer is hooping in the latest music video from “T.U.S.K.” featuring the new track “Dead…

Sunshine & Smiles
So, I have some good news and some bad news.
The bad news: the hula hooping video of my sissy that I promised a few posts back is absolutely REFUSING to be posted. If anyone else has experienced problems posting videos to Tumblr and then resolved said problems, let me know how you did it!
The good news: it is an absolutely GORGEOUS day in Syracuse! So gorgeous, in fact, that my roommate...

Pinterest-ing →
Aaaaand another thing that I’m obsessed with right now: Pinterest! It’s like Tumblr COMBINED with Stumble Upon—what could be better? I just found this “board” (pinterest lingo) all about hula hoops. Take a look, and then get addicted :]

Throw Back
As yes, the hula hoops that I used for my Olympic themed half-birthday party back in middle school. These are the kind of hoops that are super light—aka super hard to keep up around your hips. Because they aren’t weighted, it takes far more effort from the hooper to keep ‘em spinning. At this point however, these ones do have some water in them, but it’s mainly just...

Viva Las Vegas
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, faithful readers, hoopers of all kinds… guess WHAT!? I’m going to be on a plane to Las Vegas in just a little over 24 hours. YEEEP!
Now although I partly just brought this up to vent some excitement, I also just read a really interesting article about Las Vegas and hula hooping:
Las Vegas Considers Hula Hoop Ban
That’s right,...

Hooping Heart
Each uniquely decorated with bright tape, hula-hoops outnumber people in the Thornden park amphitheatre. Some whirl wildly around skirted waists, others glide up and down legs or around necks, and extras lay scattered in the grass, begging to be picked up and played with.
So many hoops occupy the amphitheatre because Thornden Park has become the unofficial home of Syracuse’s only group...

Hoopdance (R)Evolution
Wearing an oversized knit sweater, bright patterned tights, and a yellow fluff of a skirt, Mallory Taskey’s smile is almost as bright as the light-up hula-hoop that she holds in her hands. Taskey, 22, stands outside Syracuse’s Westcott Theatre, a concert venue that she frequents once a week (if not more), and where she is affectionately known, not as Mallory, but as Hoop Girl.
But...

Hula Hoopla
Moving with an almost liquid grace, Dawnmarie Raymond releases the striped hoop from her hands and swivels her hips to start it swinging smoothly around her waist. Though it’s been a little over two years since Raymond first brought hula hooping to Go Figure Gym, a huge smile still plasters itself across her face the moment that she hits her rhythm.
“I could never hoop when I was little,” she...
